It's a no-brainer. That's how I describe the upcoming Aug. 12 referendum to approve increasing the levy limit of up to $790,000 a year for five years (from 2015-2019) for Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Green County residents will be asked to give support to their comprehensive nursing and skilled services facility, located just north of Monroe. The referendum, if approved, will simply extend the support voters approved in 2009 for five years. That referendum then was for $890,000 annually and expires this year (2014).
The Aug. 12 vote asks voters to approve a lesser amount than was asked in 2009. This means taxpayers will be paying a lower amount of taxes to support Pleasant View for the next five years.
I have experience with a number of nursing and assisted living facilities within the county with several family members. My wife is currently a resident at Pleasant View. The care level and compassion of staff at Pleasant View is unequaled.
If Green County residents think that a skilled nursing facility will not affect them, it is only a matter of time before it does in some way or another. We are extremely fortunate to have this service available. County residents' support of Pleasant View is essential.
The nursing home's operational expense exceeds its income sources. Payments for residents' care comes from Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans Administration, insurance companies and individual payments. These payments do not entirely cover expenses, thus the referendum to help pay for costs not covered.
A definitive source of information about the referendum is found on the nursing home's website. Just go to Pleasantviewnursinghome.org and click on the referendum tab to find answers to many questions and further facts and figures.
