The upcoming Court of Appeals race has gotten little media coverage, though the differences between the two candidates are stunning. We join Judge Ramona Gonzalez and the nearly 50 judges who have already endorsed Judge Ed Leineweber. As the sole judge in Richland County's Circuit Court, Leineweber has presided over many trials during his 13 years as judge, which means he would bring trial experience presently lacking among District 4's judges. Another shortfall of District 4 is the absence of representation from any of the 23 counties outside of Dane County included in District 4. Rural voters need to realize that in this election their vote for Judge Leineweber can make a difference.
The Court of Appeals reviews cases in search of errors by circuit courts. Judge Leineweber's Appeals Court experience attained through the Judicial Exchange Program means no on-the-job training. Judge Leineweber chairs a Judicial Council's committee which makes recommendations to the Supreme Court as to procedure, rules and evidence changes, so this knowledge is immediately transferable.
Leineweber's opponent is not a judge and comes with the Democrat partisan label that he ran under, in Dane County.
As voters we are in charge of hiring. Based on qualifications, the next Appeals' Court judge should be Judge Leineweber, because his background and experience as private attorney (21 years), county prosecutor (six year) and city attorney (three years), are the right fit for this particular court, which must recognize procedural and/or substantive errors.
Unlike recent Wisconsin Supreme Court races, there haven't been many ads and not much money has been spent. Yet this court is as important as the higher court, especially where rights of litigants are at issue, and because many judges move from the Appeals Court to the Supreme Court!
Join us in voting for the candidate who has superior job qualifications, the candidate who is an Independent not a partisan, and the candidate with a lengthy record of distinguished service to state and community - Judge Leineweber.
