Hans Bernet: Fantastic production, experience at MAC

My wife and I recently attended the Monroe Theater Guild production of "The Drawer Boy" at the Monroe Arts Center. It is by far the finest play production I have ever seen in Monroe.

The cast of Chris Weis, Gary Johnson and Matt Finkenbinder is absolutely outstanding. Each character has a depth and breadth that illicit in turn laughter and sadness. The plot is a wonderful story of a city slicker playwright's encounter with two simple farmers. In the end the playwright is anything but slick and the farmers are anything but simple. This production, under the expert direction we have come to expect from David Bristow, grabs you from the first scene and doesn't let you go until the final curtain.

Monroe is so fortunate to have these fine talents putting on such a moving and entertaining production. The set by Suzanne Miller underscores the action perfectly and the costumes by Sandi Nelson fit the characters to a tee.

I would urge everyone to go see this fantastic production and experience the kind of theater you normally have to travel to a large city and pay exorbitant prices to enjoy. You won't regret it, and in the process you will support two organizations that make Monroe such a worthwhile place in which to live, The Monroe Theater Guild and The Monroe Arts Center.
