Blossoms & Barbs: Feb. 20, 2010

A barb to City Water Utility Supervisor Mike Kennison. >Mr. Kennison posted our 29 percent increase in water rates in the legal section of The Monroe Times. It was placed in the smallest announcement that I have ever seen. I guess if I was going to raise the rates, I would try to hide it, too. One of the reasons for this huge rate increase is because too many people are not paying their bills. If this is true, this rate increase will not make up for nonpayments. It will, in fact, cause more people to forego payments. The sad part of this is that this increase isn't even for the 9th Street construction next year. We can look forward to another next year. Not everyone in Monroe has secure union city jobs. Many are without work or underpaid. Let's stop spending money like they do in Washington and think on how even the decisions on local levels can be a hardship on all. - Citizen for a more responsible local government>

We would like to send a huge bunch of red rose blossoms to Pleasant View Nursing home and to the entire staff.> Due to some health problems, our mom was a resident at the facility for about a month. The compassion and professionalism of the care she received was simply amazing. Also a huge bunch of red rose blossoms to Cindi Stevenson and the crew of 2 North. >We got to see firsthand even though you were often overworked and understaffed the care that was given to our mom and to all of the residents on that floor was always top-notch. Also the way that you made sure that we as family members were always informed and comfortable with what was going on and also you always took a second even if you were busy to answer a question or deal with any concerns we or mom had. To that fact we are truly thankful. Please keep up the great care and treatment, and thanks again! - Rick, Russ and Gloria Alston>
