A barb to the City of Monroe. >Saturday night we were supposed to turn our lights off for one hour at 8:30 p.m. to "save" the Earth. Then please tell me why the tennis court lights at Northeast Park were on in a snowstorm at 11:15 p.m.? These lights are on past 11 p.m. every night of the week from spring through fall. Parks are supposed to be closed at 11 p.m., but these lights are on every night well past that hour and shining into the homes and nursing home in the adjacent area. The City wants to do away with the parking meters on the Square, so let's put them to good use. I'm sure a talented electrician can wire up some and the ignorant people who don't want to walk over and turn off the free lights can dig in their pockets for some quarters to buy the time their used. Other cities have done this for years. Abuse it and lose it. - Curious>

A most delicious chocolate blossom to Chocolate Temptations' >absolutely wonderful fondue and dessert night event on Saturday. Wonderful to see things going on downtown in the evenings. The most heavenly 1 1/2 hours I have spent away from my kids and enjoying adult company in a long time. Hope you host this event again! And save me a seat! - Laura>

A huge blossom to Monroe Arts Center and "Voices Unlimited" >for an outstanding show last Saturday night. What a talented group of people! I'm sure glad I didn't let the weather keep me away, as the show was something not to be missed! Also, a big thank you to the underwriters who make it possible for MAC to get this kind of quality entertainment. P.S. Loved the parody of the Cheese Days song. Will never be able to sing it again without thinking of your wonderfully funny lyrics. - Sherry Anderegg>

A huge blossom to Tonya Kelly at GCHS. >After reading all the posts online, it becomes quite obvious the shelter needs more volunteers. I have donated to the shelter in the past, but hadn't volunteered at the shelter before so I went down to meet Tonya. She was wonderful. She has helped me to understand what is needed by the shelter, and has expanded my imagination to find new ways to help the shelter. I am now fostering a few cats, and am starting to go in to spend time with some of the remaining residents. Tonya and I are also working on getting me up to speed so that I can help expand the information and postings online of the animals available. I encourage others to come down to the shelter and offer help, even if it is once a week or once a month. You'd be amazed how big an impact just a little bit of your time can make at the shelter. And have no doubt, one of those little fur faces will make a difference in your day while you are there. - Rhonda>
