I havent been posting to this blog nearly as often as I normally do, or as I would like. Its been extremely busy in the Times newsroom lately, and Ill admit ideas for blog topics havent exactly been flowing lately.
One person who seems to have that flow of ideas at the moment is John Waelti, a Monroe resident who writes occasional columns for The Monroe TImes.
John has been writing columns for most of the time Ive been editor at the Times. He often writes about economics, his area of expertise, but also about politics and observations about life in Monroe and Green County. Though hes not a paid columnist with a schedule to adhere to, John always has been consistent in submitting a column every few weeks.
He took a break from his column to run for State Assembly earlier this year. He won the Democratic Partys nomination, but lost in the general election last month to Rep. Brett Davis. While he was campaigning, when Id see him hed always mention how he missed writing his columns and looked forward to writing again, win or lose.
Boy, did he mean it! I think John has been writing weekly for nearly a month. His latest piece, in which he gives his opinions on how the nation can get out of the recession now that weve all finally, officially, admitted were in a recession is in todays newspaper and online editions.
If you havent read Johns columns before, you should. Agree or disagree with him, he always has an interesting point of view and conveys it well via the written the word.
