SAUK PRAIRIE - The Sugar River Raiders and Pecatonica-Arglye Vikings had some individual highs, but overall team lows Saturday at the Sauk Prairie Invitational.

Raider standouts Cole Schmitt and Kalvin York took first place victories, but Sugar River scored only 173.5 points for eighth place out of 11 teams. Vikings seniors Casey Krahenbuhl and Mike Pittz secured second and third place honors, respectively, but Pecatonica-Argyle took ninth overall with 82 points. River Valley won the invitational with 267 team points.

The junior York didn't break a sweat in his 140-pound bracket first-place match versus Valley's Tim Emerson as the Raider won by forfeit, but he took out Dodgeville's Trae Vance via pin in 27 seconds. York then dominated Holmen's Ian Hackett with a 16-0 technical fall in the semifinal match.

The senior Schmitt won the 145 weight class by pining the host Eagles' Marcus Ganser in 13 seconds followed up by getting Watertown's Mike Turtenwald on his back in 3 minutes, 8 seconds in the semifinals. Racine Park's Tyler Dombeck proved not to be a tough challenger as Schmitt won by technical fall 15-0 in the championship round.

Senior JC Francois, a typical winner in the 171 weight class, had to forfeit in the championship match to Dodgeville's Grant Miller and brought home 31 team points with his second-place finish.

Pecatonica-Argyle's senior Krahenbuhl needed a little extra time to take out Verona's Brian Lewis 2-0 in overtime in the 125 weight class. Unfortunately, Krahenbuhl didn't have much left in the tank as he lost to River Valley's Dylan Shaffer by technical fall, 16-1.

Pittz, a 215 grappler, needed to come back from a loss in the quarterfinal to Sauk Prairie's Sean Lathrop by a 7-6 decision. Pittz won three consecutive matches to earn a spot in the third-place match and a rematch against Lathrop. Pittz took advantage in the rematch and won by pin fall in 2 minutes, 40 seconds and got the Vikings 25 team points.

DELAVAN-DARIEN INVITATIONAL

One point the other way and the Redbirds' ride home to Darlington wouldn't have been so nice Saturday.

The Redbirds escaped the Delavan-Darien Invitational with a 35-34 victory in round five over Lake Geneva Badger to come home with a 3-2 team record.

Darlington defeated Milwaukee Bay View in round one, 60-15, then took two on the chin, 43-34 to Racine Horlick and 40-36 to the hosting Comets. The Redbirds rebounded with two victories, 54-24, over Milwaukee Hamilton and the aforementioned win over Milwaukee Bay View.

Isaiah Goebel won all five of his matches - one via forfeit - at the invitational in the 125-pound weight class. Devin Malott was 3-1 at 112 pounds for the Redbirds. Dylan McGuire was a perfect 5-0, netting four pins and a technical fall.
