WRESTLING: Milton pins Monroe; Raiders fall

MILTON - The Monroe wrestling team ran into the unenviable task of duking it out with one of the state's top wrestling teams Thursday.

Milton, ranked eighth in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 1 poll, beat the Cheesemakers in a Badger South dual meet 60-9.

The Cheesemakers received wins from senior heavyweight Lucas Leu by pin and sophomore Dylan Schwitz at 135 pounds. Schwitz escaped his opponent with a 4-3 win.

Monroe senior Gavin Wels, ranked fourth in Division 2 (112) lost a nail-biter, 6-5, in double overtime.

"It was a very humbling expereince," Monroe coach Jeriamy Jackson said. "All we can do is get healthy, both mentally and physically, for the upcoming tournament series."

CAMBRIDGE 54, SUGAR RIVER 19

Sugar River senior Kalvin York has recovered just fine from his concussion.

York, ranked No. 1 by Wisconsin Wrestling Online in Division 2, remained unbeaten after picking up another pin in 1 minute, 4 seconds.

Sugar River freshman Ricky Ace won a major decision, 10-1. Matt Saunders (130) also posted a pin in 1:52 and senior Nick Gunkel (152) defeated his opponent, 7-3.
