WIAA releases playoff brackets, matchups

MONROE - The journey to Camp Randall Stadium will go through Darlington as the Redbirds received a No. 1 seed in the Division 6 playoffs.

The WIAA Saturday afternoon announced the brackets and first-round pairings for the playoffs. Darlington (8-1), the Division 6 state runner-up last year and SWAL Conference champion, will host Racine Lutheran in a first-round playoff game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The other first-round matchups are set.



Division 3

Evansville-Albany (6-3), the Rock Valley North co-champions, received a No. 7 seed and will play at No. 2 seed Monona Grove at 7 p.m. Friday. Monona Grove (8-1) was the Badger South Conference champion.



Division 4

Brodhead-Juda (8-1) received a No. 2 seed and will host Kettle Moraine Lutheran in a first-round playoff game at 7 p.m. Friday. Lodi, the Capitol North Conference champion, received the No. 1 seed in the Cardinals' eight team grouping.

Brodhead-Juda beat Walworth Big-Foot 27-21 Friday to snap the Chiefs' 53-conference game winning streak and clinch a share of the Rock Valley South title for the first time since 2003. It's the 24th straight year Brodhead-Juda is in the playoffs.



Division 6

There are five unbeaten teams in the Division 6 playoff field including Edgar, Saint Mary's Springs, Ozukee, Lake Country Lutheran and Athens. Darlington, ranked No. 5 in the WisSports.Net Coaches poll, received the No. 1 seed despite Lake Country Lutheran (9-0) being in its eight team grouping. Black Hawk beat Lake Country Lutheran 60-33 in a Division 7 state semifinal last year.

Pecatonica-Argyle (6-3) received a No. 7 seed and will play at Lake Country Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday.



Division 7

Black Hawk (6-3), the sixth smallest school in the Division 7 playoffs, received a No. 4 seed and will host the smallest school in Six Rivers Conference rival Belmont at 7 p.m. Friday. Ithaca (9-0), ranked No. 1, received the No. 1 seed in the Warriors' eight team grouping and Potosi, the Six Rivers Conference champion, received a No. 2 seed.
