Wellnitz carries Black Hawk

BLOOMINGTON - Jen Wellnitz won two events and finished second in another Friday to lead the Black Hawk girls track team to a sixth-place finish at the River Ridge Invitational.

In the boys meet, Kyle Woodruff was an individual winner and the Warriors' 400-meter squad finished first en route to a fifth-place team finish in the 11-team event.

Wellnitz won the 200 in 28.74 seconds and finished first in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet. She was second in the triple jump (31-7).

The Warriors' Kate Quinn was second in the 400 (1:08.74) and third in the discus (102-1), while teammate Katie Powers was third in the 1,600 (6:34.86). Black Hawk's 800 relay unit of Michelle Flanagan, Casi Dube, Olivia Holland and Mikayla Sigafus was third in 2:03.56.

River Ridge won the girls title with 144 points and Black Hawk finished with 66.5.

Woodruff won the 300 hurdles in 44.68 and the Warriors' 400 relay squad of DeJay Warrell, Jayden Rufenacht, Hayden Schliem and Jace Johnsrud was first in 48.94.

Johnsrud was second in the 100 (11.94), and Schliem and Johnsrud were second and third in the long jump with leaps of 18-8 and 18-2, respectively.

Black Hawk's 800 relay team of Shawn Woodruff, Kyle Woodruff, Rufenacht and Warrell was second in 1:43.84.

River Ridge won the title with 164 points. Black Hawk finished with 61.
