Warriors outlast Redbirds

DARLINGTON - Thirty-two total runs were scored by Darlington and Black Hawk in their softball game on Tuesday. At the end of the night, it was the Warriors who escaped with a two-run victory, winning 17-15.

"Tonight's game was definitely a case of who made less errors," Redbirds coach Karen Bennett said. "I thought we were hitting the ball well, but unfortunately we just couldn't hit to open areas."

In helping her team get their first win of the season, Black Hawk sophomore Rachel Richard picked up the win. Freshman Sam Lovelace led the Warriors with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Abby Baumgartner and Jen Wellnitz each went 2-for-4.

For Darlington, Taylor Cox was 2-for-4 with two triples, while Megan Wiegel was 2-for-4.



Riverdale 9, Pecatonica 8

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica softball team was on the verge of koncking off Riverdale in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Pecatonica (2-6, 1-1 Six Rivers East) led 8-5 entering the sixth inning before losing a heartbreaker 9-8. Pecatonica senior pitcher Julia Meyer gave up a triple to Riverdale's Dana Walstad down the right field line. Riverdale's Amanda Meister followed with an RBI triple down the right field line to spark a four-run sixth inning.

"We have really talked this year about changing our expectations," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "They won one game in volleyball and two or three in basketball. We have to learn how to win. This is a game that really would help us turn the corner. The girls are committed to doing that."

Pecatonica junior Molly Hendrickson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Britt Miller was 2-for-4. Pecatonica junior Emily Scoville also had two RBI.

Pecatonica sophomore Clara Moen started on the mound and lasted 2 1/3 innings. She gave up three runs on one hit and walked five. Meyer pitched three innings in relief and gave up five runs on four hits. Scoville took the loss. She pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit.



Wis. Heights 13,

New Glarus 3

MAZOMAINE - In a conference matchup against powerhouse Wisconsin Heights, the New Glarus girls softball team were outmatched in a 13-3 loss.

The Knights scored one run in the first, second, and fifth innings, but the host Vanguards were able to score 12 runs in the first three innings to give their team a comfortable lead heading into the later innings.
