ALBANY - Even without one of its top hitters, the Black Hawk volleyball team pulled out a four-game win over Albany Thursday night.
Black Hawk (5-4 Six Rivers East) played without junior Jen Wellnitz and was still able to defeat the Comets 25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 25-13.
Black Hawk junior Mikayla Sigafus powered the Warriors with 10 kills, four aces and one block.
"It was the Mikayla Sigafus show tonight," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said.
Black Hawk senior Kelly Neuenschwander had eight assists. The Comets had five service errors on their first six serves.
"If we get more serves in that may have changed the momentum in that first game," Wunschel said.
Albany (2-8 Six Rivers East) was led by seniors Kirstie Kauk with 11 kills and Cassidy Bump with 13 assists. Senior Carlie Peters notched 20 digs and junior Ashlee Berra added two blocks.
Barneveld 3, Juda 1
JUDA - When Juda senior Miranda Trotter left the match with an injury, it proved to be a turning point.
After dropping the first game 25-15, the Panthers came back to win the second game 25-22. The Eagles edged the Panthers in the third game 25-23. Juda coach Tara Lund said Lund didn't play the fourth game due to an injury. Trotter finished with 10 kills and eight aces despite missing most of the final game.
"As a senior who has played all year, it's a tough blow to get injured on Senior Night," Lund said.
Juda senior Brianna Knudtson had 19 digs and junior Tabatha Davis racked up 26 assists. Senior Brittany Moe had nine kills and junior Jessica Jordan had three blocks. Barneveld's Samantha Evans had 20 kills.
"We really felt like this was one of our best matches," Lund said. "We wanted to come out and leave it all on the court. They all worked really hard this week."
Argyle 3, Pec 1
ARGYLE - Jessica Treuthardt had nine kills and three blocks to lead the Orioles to a win over the Vikings.
The junior helped Argyle knock off Pecatonica 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-11. With the win, Argyle improves to 6-5 in conference.
"I was thrilled with the way they played," Argyle coach Shelby Rideout said of Senior and Parents' night. "We came out ready to play. We played really hard and kept the momentum."
Senior Kayla Ostby had 27 assists and a team-high nine aces and Rachel Tollakson had 23 digs.
Pecatonica senior Madeline Fischer had seven kills and 28 digs. Fellow senior Michelle Francois racked up 23 assists and 28 digs. Senior Lizzy Britt had seven kills and two aces. Senior Ashley Johnsen had five blocks and added two blocks.
