Warriors, Cards score upset wins

SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk baseball team rallied to win a WIAA Division 4 quarterfinal over Williams Bay, 9-8, Friday.

Black Hawk (3-13) trailed 4-0 early in the game. Going into the seventh inning, Williams Bay led, 8-5. The Warriors, in improbable fashion, scored four runs in the seventh to win.

Black Hawk's Cory Rupnow singled to lead off the seventh. Sophomore Michael Walker, who went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs, walked and Michael Powers reached on an error. Kyle Walters then knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and Connor Moore delivered the game-winning two-run double.

Walker hit a three-run homer in the third to cut Williams Bay's lead to 4-3. He hit a two-run homerun in the fifth to give the Warriors a 5-4 lead.

Walker went the distance on the mound and earned the win. He gave up seven earned runs on six hits. Walker struck out eight and walked five.

Black Hawk advances to the regional semifinals to play at No. 1 seed Catholic Central Tuesday.

Brodhead-Juda 4, Evansville 3

EVANSVILLE - The Cardinals received a big pitching performance and got timely hitting in the win over the Blue Devils in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal.

Brodhead-Juda (7-15) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Cardinals scored two more runs in the fifth.

Brodhead-Juda junior Carson Scheidegger pitched a complete game to get the win. He gave up three earned runs on three hits. He struck out five and walked five.

Sophomore Tyler Malcook and senior Aaron Duecker each went 2-for-3 for the Cardinals. Brodhead-Juda will play at No. 2 seed Edgerton Tuesday.
