Sugar River squads cruise past Marshall

BELLEVILLE - Both the Sugar River girls and boys track teams keep rolling along and are in contention for another Capitol South Conference championship.

The Sugar River girls track team outdistanced Marshall in a dual meet Tuesday night 100-45 and the Raider boys edged the Cardinals 79-67.

Sugar River junior Emily Diaz won the 100-meter dash (:13.10), the 200 (:27.47) and 100 hurdles (:16.08). Junior Madeline Brunner finished first in the 400 (1 minute, 2.51 seconds) and in the 800 (2:39.88).

Lou Ann Judd took first in both the 1,600 (5:58.88) and 3,200 (13:04.12).

Harley Hollis won the long jump (14 feet, 3 inches) and the triple jump (30-3 1/2). Trisha Wiese posted a first place finish in the high jump (4-6).

Diaz teamed with Emily DeNure, Sabrina Popenfus and Samantha Stecha to win the 800 relay with a time of 1:58.29. DeNure and Brunner teamed with Ashley Clark and Alexis Hanson to take first in the 1,600 relay (4:31.45). In the 3,200 relay, Judd teamed with Amanda Kaiser, Susanna Rupp and Katie Schmitz to win with a time of 11:19.14.

In the boys meet, Sugar River junior Ryan McCoy won three individual events including the 800 (2:10.79), 1,600 (4:41.25), and 3,200 (9:49.25).

Sophomore Garrison Woods won the long jump (19-9 1/4) and triple jump (41-10 3/4).

Senior Josh Stern finished first in the 200 (:23.77) and senior Wesley Morgan took first in the 400 (:51.29). Kelvin Johnson took first in the 300 hurdles (:41.87) and Cole Dockter finished first in the pole vault (11-0).

Marshall won three of the four relays. The lone win for the Raiders came in the 3,200 relay. Morgan teamed with Tucker McMahon, Riley Miller and Alexander Yeiser to take first with a time of 9:06.97.
