MONROE - Eight Green County Family YMCA Mat Rat wrestlers began their tournament season by braving the snowy weather and headed north to the Sugar River Raider Rumble on Dec. 11 in New Glarus.
Nineteen teams and 145 wrestlers competed in the tournament.
For the Mat Rats, Jack Dubach won the 72- to 82-pound bracket. Placing second were Gage Jelle (50-52) and Payton Weckerly (72-79). Placing third were Wyatt Weckerly (52-58), Jaden Leistiko (56-58) and Tristen Vazquez (87-96). Placing fourth was Grant Ula (58-62).
Mat Rat practices began Dec. 5, and 50 children are participating in the program.
