STOUGHTON - The Monroe wrestling team's hopes of coming back and earning the top spot going into the Badger Conference tournament were dashed after dropping a dual meet to Stoughton, 42-22 Tuesday night.

Stoughton won 7 of the 12 matches wrestled. Monroe (6-4, 1-2 Badger South) forfeited at 106 and 113 pounds.

"They just did all the little things right and we didn't," Monroe coach Jeriamy Jackson said. "In the close matches, they didn't get pinned. They stayed off their backs. We have guys working hard. We need to step up and work harder if we want to ... go to another level and be a better team."

Monroe senior Aaron Hesgard at 132 pounds defeated Stoughton's Travis Delehanty 15-3. Senior Kevin Klopfenstein (138) pinned Stoughton's Corbin Ace in 2 minutes, 59 seconds.

Monroe junior Ryan Hughes (160) edged Stoughton's Aaron Knudtson 14-11. At 182, senior Dusty Burkhalter defeated Austin Benton 6-1. Monroe senior Trevor Gorr (220) pinned Joe Pulley in 5:03.

The Cheesemakers will have eight teams coming in for the Monroe Invitational on Saturday.

"I think we have a good chance of winning it," Jackson said.

MARSHALL - The Sugar River wrestling team fought to within one point of the lead on two separate occasions but ultimately fell to Marshall, 46-35.

The Raiders collected six wins on the night - three forfeits, a tech fall and two pins.
