STOUGHTON - Freshman forward Jackson Breton scored five goals to power Stoughton to a 17-0 win over the Monroe boys hockey co-op Monday at the Mandt Community Arena.
Stoughton (8-14-1, 4-5 Badger South) scored six goals in the first period to take an insurmountable lead over the Avalanche. The Vikings exploded for seven goals in the second period en route to the win. "The first period we tried a new strategy and things were going well, but then we got in our own heads and self destructed after we let in one or two goals," Monroe coach Josh Smith said.
The Vikings outshot the Avalanche 56-17. Monroe goaltender Dan Guilliams had 39 saves. With the loss, Monroe drops to 1-19, 0-9 Badger South. The Avalanche had five penalties and the Vikings scored two power-play goals.
Monroe will wrap up the season with its final regular season game against Milton (3-12) at 7 p.m. Friday at SLICE.
