Shuda, No. 1 doubles advance

JEFFERSON - Monroe senior Ellie Shuda, at No. 1 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Brooke McBain and Ellie Grossen on Monday earned trips to the Whitewater sectional.

Shuda defeated McFarland's Abby Polipnick 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 at the Jefferson subsectional to advance. McBain and Grossen defeated McFarland's Erin Campbell and Teagan Birrenkott 6-2, 6-2 to secure a sectional berth.

The Cheese-makers were 2-4 in three set matches and dropped two tiebreakers.

Monroe's Erica Hegi, at No. 3 singles, defeated Big Foot-Williams Bay's Natalie Boldger 6-0, 6-0, and then lost to Jefferson's Kenna Schacht 6-3, 7-6 (5).

In other singles matches, Monroe senior Lily Priewe, at No. 2 singles, lost to East Troy's Katie Kaminski in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Macayla Quinn lost a match to East Troy's Shauna Jacobs 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, Monroe senior Ashley Segner and sophomore Chandra McGuire dropped a three set match to Whitewater's Courtney Samuels and Morgan Nathan 3-6, 7-6 (7) and 6-3.

Sophomore Allie Coplien and freshman Erin Gellings at No. 3 doubles defeated Edgerton's Maddie Friend and Meg Balis 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Cheesemaker duo then lost a three set match to Madison Edgewood's Michaela Johnke and Natalie Meicher 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
