MONROE - The Monroe High School girls soccer team's 1-1 tie with Reedsburg on Friday night in a nonconference game may have come at a cost as junior Reily Pond went down with an injury.
Pond was charging after a ball in the box in the second half and collided with Monroe sophomore goalie Anna Latimer.
"Reily has a leg injury," Monroe first-year coach Kyle Kasten said.
Kasten said he doesn't know the severity of the injury or if Pond will miss any upcoming games.
"Hopefully, we will find out more next week," he said.
Pond scored a header goal off a corner kick by junior Brynn Ritschard 14 minutes, 29 seconds into the second half to give the Cheesemakers (1-1-1) a 1-0 lead.
Scoring off a set play like a corner kick was a highlight for Kasten.
"As a coach we are always implementing some plays in practice and to see them apply it in a game is great," Kasten said. "To see it come to fruition in a game is what every coach wants to see."
Reedsburg midfielder Maddie Stieve scored a game-tying goal at 36:47 of the second half.
It's the second time this season an opposing team has scored a goal in the final nine minutes to tie or beat the Cheesemakers. "We try to preach to them that everything that takes place and everything we go through is an opportunity for us to learn," Kasten said.
Latimer had 12 saves.
