MONROE — Orangeville-native Tessa Janecke was named to the United State National Team on Monday, Dec. 5.
At 18 years-old, Janecke is the youngest of 26 players on the roster. The oldest player, Hilary Knight from Sun Valley, Idaho, is 15 years Janecke’s senior. The United States roster is comprised of players from 13 different states with seven from Minnesota and five from Illinois.
As a member of the U.S. National Team, Janecke participated in one game of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series against Canada. The series is a best-of-seven competition, with the U.S. leading 3-2. The U.S. won the first three games 4-3 (SO), 2-1 and 4-2 before falling on Dec. 15 and 19 by scores of 3-2 and 3-2 (OT). The remaining two games are scheduled to be played in Canada, with times and dates to be determined.
This past summer, Janecke played in the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship and Collegiate Series against Canada. In those events, she played eight games, scoring six goals with three assists.
As a Nittany Lion for Penn State, Janecke has scored a team-leading 12 goals with 15 assists. She is second in points behind junior Kiara Zanon from Fairport, New York. In her 22 starts, she’s had three two-goal games — against Wisconsin on Sept. 22, Boston College on Oct. 15 and Lindenwood on Oct. 29. In PSU’s most recent game against Syracuse, Janecke recorded three assists.
So far this season, Janecke has earned College Hockey America’s Rookie of the Week twice, and Rookie of the Month honors (
