Ramos pitches no-hitter

SOUTH WAYNE - Sophomore Amber Ramos struck out 15 batters and went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Panthers over the Warriors, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday in Six Rivers East conference action.

The game was scoreless through four innings before the Panthers scored two runs in the fifth inning to break up a pitchers' duel between Ramos and Black Hawk junior Kayla Melland. Junior Lauren Dunwiddie and sophomore C.J. Dunwiddie had two hits each to lead Juda. Black Hawk's lone hit came on a fourth-inning single by senior Ashley Schiferl.

In the second game, Ramos threw a no-hitter in a 15-1 rout of the Warriors in five innings and a sweep of a doubleheader, Thursday.

Juda scored seven runs in the second and fourth innings off Black Hawk senior Kim Wellnitz who allowed just seven hits, but walked 13 batters. Ramos walked four and struck out six.

Juda improved to 9-3 overall and 7-0 in the Six Rivers East. They will host Albany Monday. Black Hawk fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Six Rivers East. The Warriors host Argyle Monday.

Cambridge 9, New Glarus 1

CAMBRIDGE - The Glarner Knights are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to the Cambridge Blue Jays, 9-1, Thursday, in a Capitol South Conference game.

New Glarus (0-10, 0-5 Capitol South) will play in the Poynette Jamboree today.

Pecatonica 8, Argyle 3

ARGYLE - The Vikings scored five runs in the fifth inning and survived a three-run seventh inning rally by the Orioles to win the first game of a Six Rivers East conference doubleheader, 8-6, Thursday.

Junior Ellie Gifford went 2-for-5 and sophomore Aly Swenson added a double to lead the Vikings. Jodi Fischer went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples for Argyle.

Kayla Ostby held Pecatonica to two hits as the Orioles got a split of a doubleheader with a 5-2 win over the Vikings.

Ostby walked five and struck out six while Jodie Fischer went 2-for-4 and Steph Cuevas went 2-for-3 to lead Argyle. Kim Fischer also had a triple for Argyle. Ellie Gifford had both of the Vikings' hits, including a double. Senior Kaci Cassidy walked five and struck out six in the pitchers' circle for Pecatonica.

The Orioles will travel to Black Hawk while Pecatonica travels to Monticello Monday.

Barneveld 7, Monticello 6

Monticello 11, Barneveld 4

BARNEVELD - The Monticello softball team split a doubleheader with Barneveld Thursday.

Monticello (7-5, 3-4 Six Rivers East) lost the first game to Barneveld 7-6 in eight innings, but the Ponies beat the Eagles in the night cap, 11-4.

"Every coach wants to split a doubleheader on the road," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "I really felt like we could have swept the doubleheader. We had our chances."

Monticello sophomore Karlie Klossner pitched a complete game in the first game and gave up seven runs on 12 hits. She struck out one and walked three.

Monticello junior Taylor Pfeuti went 2-for-3 to lead the Ponies.

Tayler Bowser (3-for-4) and Brooke Arneson (3-for-5) led Barneveld. With the doubleheader split, Barneveld (10-6, 6-2) is now two games behind Juda in the loss column in the conference.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Ponies broke the game open with a six-run second. Monticello senior Mersadi Hilliard, who was 2-for-3, had a two-run single and senior Olivia Doyle had a two-run double in the inning.

Monticello sophomore Tanya Smith went 2-for-4 and Klossner was 2-for-3. Every player in Monticello's starting lineup scored at least one run. Pfeuti scored three runs.

Klossner went the distance and gave up four runs on eight hits. She had one strikeout and walked four.
