MONROE - Monroe's wrestling wounds didn't heal Tuesday night.
The dinged-up Cheesemakers only scored four points - thanks to 103-pound combatant Gavin Wels - in the healthy and powerful Pointers squad's 64-4 team victory in Monroe.
"We are a very banged up team coming up against a very good team in Mineral Point," Cheesemakers head coach Jeriamy Jackson said.
Wels earned a major decision victory, 15-4, over Mineral Point's Garrett Smart as he shows his coach the strides he's made since hitting the mat his freshman year.
"He continues to prove himself and gets better with every match," Jackson said.
Monroe's Mason Goff (135), Kyle Klopfenstein (140) and Dillon Weckerley all were in good position to earn the Cheesemakers some team points, but the Pointers' experience came through in the end.
"We were in a lot of other matches, but we could never seem to pull them out," Jackson said. "We need to start having things go in our favor. And we really need to get healthy here before the push toward conference and regionals."
