OREGON - Brothers Matt and Luke Pearson each scored two goals to power the Oregon boys soccer team to a 7-0 win over Monroe on Tuesday.

With the win, Oregon remains unbeaten and on top in the Badger South Conference. Oregon, which has made a run to the state tournament in two of the past three years, scored five goals in the second half to seal the victory.

"We knew they were very good and handled Mount Horeb earlier in the year," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "In the first five minutes of the game, you could see that we were scared. After that we settled down. For the first 35 minutes, we played tough against them. Our defense was playing very solid. They were getting a little frustrated."

Monroe (4-10-1, 1-5 Badger South) was called for pushing in the box. That led to Matt Pearson scoring a goal on a penalty kick at 34 minutes, 47 seconds. About four minutes later, Luke Pearson scored a goal to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the half.

"That (penalty kick) kind of let them off the hook," Vasquez said. "Their toughness and speed wore us down a little bit."

After the Panthers took a 4-0 lead, Vasquez gave some younger players a chance to play against the top team in the conference.

"They (Oregon) didn't let up," he said. "I think it was good to get some of the younger guys used to the speed in a varsity game."
