NEW GLARUS - Five New Glarus boys basketball players received all-conference honors recently, led by junior Jaden Kreklow who was named the Capitol South Conference's Player of the Year.
Kreklow, who averaged 20.3 points per game, was named first-team all-conference and led the Glarner Knights to a 24-1 record and a No. 1 ranking in the Division 4 Associated Press state poll. The Knights had three players receive first-team all-conference honors, which also included junior Zach Feller (19.2 ppg) and senior Cullen Brooks (15.1 ppg).
New Glarus went unbeaten in the regular season and lost to Pardeeville 74-68 in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal.
New Glarus junior Trevor Gassman (10.7 ppg) and sophomore Connor Siegenthaler (7.2 ppg) were both named honorable mention all-conference.
In girls basketball, New Glarus senior Willow Lee was named second-team all-conference. Lee was the team's leading scorer at 14.9 points per game. Senior Julia Barnaby (11.5 ppg) received honorable mention all-conference accolades.
Lee and Barnaby led the Knights to an 11-13 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the Capitol South at 4-6. Cambridge knocked offs the Knights 60-55 in a regional final to end the season.
In wrestling, Sugar River freshman Joe Quaglia and sophomore Robert Chenoweth were named first-team Capitol South All-Conference. Quaglia (106 pounds) was a state qualifier in his debut season and finished the season 30-12. Wrightstown freshman Kaiden Koltz pinned him in a preliminary match at state. Chenoweth was a sectional qualifier and closed the season 27-13.
