MONTICELLO - Sophomore Jon Errthum scored a game-high 19 points and the Monticello High School boys basketball team closed the game with an 11-0 run to beat Juda 44-37 Tuesday night.

"It was big for us just to validate all the hard work we have put in," Monticello coach Mark Olson said. "Juda did a really nice job defensively. They pressured up on us. In the end we handled their pressure and were a little more patient. We made free throws to win it."

Monticello (2-17, 1-9 Six Rivers East) led by seven points with 9 minutes, 5 seconds left in the first half. Juda (5-14, 1-9) closed the first half on a 9-2 run to tie the game. The Ponies opened the second half with a 10-0 run to take a 26-16 lead.

Monticello senior Logan Marty added 13 points and hit two 3-pointers. The Ponies led by as many as 11 points in the second half.

Juda's Joe Rackow scored 12 points to lead the Panthers. Juda sophomore Keegan Haffele, who scored 11 points, drilled a 3-pointer with 3:30 left to give the Panthers a short-lived 35-33 lead. That set the stages for the Ponies surge to end the game.

Monticello closed the game by making 5 of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes.

Barneveld 51, Pecatonica 42

BLANCHARDVILLE - Barneveld's Lucas Evans scored a game-high 17 points and the Eagles knocked off Pecatonica to clinch at least a share of the Six Rivers East Conference championship.

Pecatonica (16-4, 8-2 Six Rivers East) was tied with Barneveld at the half. The Eagles outscored the Vikings 29-20 in the second half.

Pecatonica junior A.J. Hendrickson scored a team-high 17 points. Junior Kole Kent added eight points.

Barneveld's Matthew Myers added 13 points and made two of the Eagles' four 3-pointers.

If Barneveld (16-4, 10-0) beats Black Hawk on Friday, the Eagles can clinch the conference title outright.

Black Hawk 69, Argyle 48

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk freshman Conner Meyer scored a game-high 21 points to help the Warriors roll over Argyle.

Black Hawk junior Josh Meier added 16 points, and senior Chase Stietz had 14 points.

"We executed our game plan," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "It really started by establishing Josh Meier and Conner Meyer down low. Once we got the ball inside the 3s followed."

Black Hawk (9-10, 5-5 Six Rivers East) hit seven 3-pointers, including a team-high four by Stietz.

Argyle senior Riley Ostby scored a team-high 11 points. Senior Kyle Emberson and junior Collin Argue each chipped in eight points. Argyle junior Rafa Puentevella hit two of the Orioles' three 3-pointers and finished with seven points.

The Warriors made 10 of 14 free throws compared to 5 of 12 for the Orioles (12-7, 5-5).

We didn't let up," Anderson said. "We played a complete game. That has been a problem for us this year. We played a complete game at the end of the year tonight."

Belleville 56, Albany 52

ALBANY - Tyler Dahl scored 20 points and Cole Trapp added 16 but the Comets (12-8) couldn't overcome the Wildcats in a nonconference game.

Sophomore Drew Shrader paced Belleville with a career-high 29 points, including three 3-pointers.

Belleville led 21-20 at halftime.

"It was pretty close throughout," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "In the end, I thought they were more aggressive defensively. They made us work hard for everything we got on offense."
