MAZOMANIE - The Monroe volleyball team went 3-2 at the Wisconsin Heights Invitational on Saturday and finished third place.

Monroe (9-19, 0-7 Badger South) defeated Seneca 25-15, 25-15, beat Iowa-Grant 19-25, 25-14, 15-12 and knocked off Southwestern 21-25, 27-26, 15-13. The Cheesemakers lost to champion Platteville 23-25, 15-25 and to runner-up Wisconsin Heights 11-25, 18-25. The Cheesemakers were playing without middle blocker Taylor Barrett who was ill and missed the tournament.

"Third place without Taylor was a plus in our book," Monroe coach Danya Ward said. "They communicated well. They came in with a good attitude. Homecoming week kind of brought us together."

Monroe junior Whitney Disch had 37 kills and eight aces in the tournament and 14 in one match.

"Whitney Disch had an awesome tournament," Ward said. "She was just on fire. She does a good job of getting pumped and getting the team up."

Senior Heather Barta racked up 53 assists. Senior Ashley Curtis had 26 digs and senior Alexa Wyss had 20 digs.

Wyss also added seven aces and junior Savannah Koester had 22 kills.
