Monroe still trying to find consistent scoring

COTTAGE GROVE - The Monroe High School boys golf team is searching for consistency after shooting a 346 as a team at the Monona Grove Invitational at the Oaks Golf Course on Thursday.

Both Monroe senior Devon Boeck and junior Collyn Wilde shot an 87 on the par-72 course. Boeck was coming off a 78 in the season-opening Stoughton Invitational on Monday.

"I think Devon could have shot a lot better," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "He knows he could have been better. Collyn can do better. He's trying to put his whole game together."

Marquette (307) won the 16-team invitational. Complete results were not available at press time.

Sophomore Jack Rogerson carded an 89, and senior Kyle Krebs had a 93 to round out the scoring for Monroe.

Noah Becker, as Monroe's fifth golfer, turned in a 115. Becker and Connor Allen are freshmen rotating as varsity players this season.

"We just want them to get experience," Rindy said. "We don't want them to worry about the score. We just want them to make good contact and get better every time out. I don't want them to get down on themselves. That is so hard as a freshman. We have kids who don't want to go out for golf because they think it's impossible to shoot par."
