MONROE - The Monroe Senior Legion baseball team continued its hot hitting, rolling to a 10-5 win over Orangeville Tuesday.

The Monroe senior team (8-5, 4-3 Stateline League) scored two runs in the first inning. Tayler Rupnow drove in a run with an infield single. Brian Wang beat a play at first base to break up a potential double play that knocked in a run to give Monroe a 2-0 lead.

"They were confident at the plate," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "The biggest thing is they went out and held them to zero and we came back in to hit. They are swinging better this summer than they did in the spring. I don't know if we have been seeing the best pitching, but we have been scoring a lot of runs."

Monroe gave pitcher Desmond Ford a big cushion with a three-run second. Logan Weckerly, who went 2-for-3, led off with a single. Cam Shaw beat out an infield single and Tyler Dahl came through with an RBI single. Chase Hellenbrand added an RBI single to right and Garrett Gogin had an RBI single to give Monroe a 5-0 lead. Gogin finished 2-for-3 with a walk.

Both Brent Edmunds and Weckerly had RBI singles in a four-run fourth to help Monroe extend the lead to 9-1.

Ford pitched a complete game and gave up two earned runs.

"He got ahead in the count and he was throwing strikes," Losenegger said of Ford. "He did a good job."
