Monroe girls, boys run to Sauk Prairie relay titles

PRAIRIE DU SAC - Both the Monroe High School girls and boys track and field teams ran to championships at the Sauk Prairie Relays on Friday.

The Monroe girls won seven relay races en route to the team title. The team scores were not available at press time.

"Going in, I wanted to put together some really good relays to win," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. "I really didn't know what to expect. It really was a great day for Monroe track and field. We are looking really good."

The Cheesemakers' 800-meter relay team of senior Josie Eberle, senior Casey Rielly, junior Sydney Mathiason and sophomore Cammi Ganshert won the race with a time of 1 minute, 51 seconds. Eberle teamed with senior Allyce Fahrney, Rielly and Ganshert to win the 400 relay (52.6).

The Cheesemakers' 800 medley relay also won (2:03.5). In the medley relay, freshmen Jada Love and Bri Seagreaves each ran a 100, sophomore Emma Sanders ran a 200 and Mathiason ran a 400.

Eberle teamed with senior Lexus Trickel, Mathiason and Ganshert to won the 1,600 relay (4:22.8).

"Cammi ran the 400 in about 59.5 seconds," Davis said. "That was just phenomenal."

Fahrney teamed with sophomore Elise Smith, junior Kati Symons and junior Rachel Meier to win the 3,200 relay (10:56.4). The Cheesemakers' trio of pole vaulters - Eberle, junior Payton Sigafus and freshman Lily Frehner - won the relay. Eberle cleared 10 feet, which was a personal record. The Monroe discus crew of senior Sydney Schultz, freshman Chloe Bunker and freshman Grace Schrenk also won (236 feet, 4 inches).

The Monroe boys won four of the relay races. The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Drake Ingold, Dylan Scace, Jonah Tostrud and Jason Koller won in a time of 8:33.5 seconds.

"It's one of the top times in the state in Division 2," Monroe boys track coach Scott Mosher said. "They ran it pretty easy because they had other events coming up."

Junior Brayden Zettle teamed with senior Kendall Paulson, junior Jevon Gibson and sophomore Jordan Montgomery to win the 800 relay. Zettle teamed with Tostrud, Scace and Koller to win the 1,600 relay (3:30.6).

"They ran a great race," Mosher said. "For this time of year that is a really fast time. They are ahead of where they were last year."

The Cheesemakers also won the distance medley relay. Drake Ingold ran the 1,200 meters followed by Josh Smith who ran the 400, Parker Ingold who ran the 800 and sophomore Kyle Legler who ran the 1,600.

"Kyle had a really big lead on the last lap and won by five or six seconds," Mosher said.

Monroe's trio of Tyson Welsch, Scott Parr and Ethan Kleckler won the shot put (119-9). Both Welsch and Parr surpassed 42 feet.

"We didn't know what the competition would be like," Mosher said of the Sauk Prairie Relays. "We wanted to win it. It was a nice surprise."
