OREGON - The Monroe boys track team has a stable of performers who can run quality times in the 800 meters. The Cheesemakers showed this depth in a quad meet in Oregon Tuesday.
Monroe senior Cody Faust won the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 59.74 seconds, which was 12 seconds faster than the runner-up.
"Cody put himself in a position to be a strong contender in the 800 once we get to the tournament series," Monroe boys track coach Curt Miller said.
The Monroe boys finished third place with 61.5 points. Oregon took first place, outdistancing Milton 11.5-78.5. The Monroe girls track team finished second place (62) and Oregon won the meet with 123 points.
The Cheesemakers 1,600 relay team of Alex Koller, Thang Lu, Jonah Tostrud and Faust won with a time of 3 minutes, 36.5 seconds.
"It was a competitive race," Miller said. "Cody had to run them down in the anchor leg for the win. Cody really had a great meet."
The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Jack Schluesche, Jason Koller, Alex Koller and Ryan Peterson took first place with a time of 8:56.3.
"We have a lot of 800 runners with excellent times," Miller said. "We have 12 runners under 2:12 right now, which is a credit to the athletes as well as the exceptional coaching of our distance coach Howie Jubeck. If there was such an award for Assistant Coach of the Year in Wisconsin, Howie would win it hands down."
Monroe freshman Dylan Scace took second place in the 1,600 (4:40.71) and Lu was second in the 400 (53.40). The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of Mitch Swanson, Kendall Paulson, Cody Wolf and Blain Harpstrite finished second place (46.14). Drake Ingold took second place in the 3,200 (10:53.30).
In the girls' meet, Monroe sophomore Josie Eberle won the pole vault clearing 8 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore teammate Jordan Hirsbrunner finished first place in the 100 hurdles (16.33) and second place in the 200.
Monroe's Casey Rielly finished second place in the 300 hurdles (53.36).
