Monroe boys golf advances to sectionals

MADISON - The Monroe boys golf team had three golfers finish in the top nine to place second in the WIAA Division 2 Madison Edgewood regional and the Cheesemakers will move on to the sectional.

Madison Edgewood shot a 312 to capture the team regional title. Monroe shot a 321. The Cheesemakers will advance to the sectional as a team for the third straight year. Brodhead placed last in the 10-team regional with a 489.

Monroe senior Tanner Thompson shot an 8-over-par 78 to tie Edgewood's Jack Drake and Tommy Mohs for fifth place at Nakoma Country Club. Monroe sophomore Collyn Wilde carded a 79 to take eighth. Junior Nick Baumann tied for ninth with an 80.

Monroe freshman Jack Rogerson rounded out the top four for the Cheesemakers, shooting an 84 to take 15th.

The top golfer for Brodhead was senior Spencer Sowatzke who finished 32nd with a 100.



Division 3

MINERAL POINT - Argyle-Pecatonica placed second in the WIAA Division 3 Mineral Point regional to qualify for sectionals.

Mineral Point edged Argyle-Pecatonica for the regional title 324-331. New Glarus took third (344) and also moves on as a team to the sectional as one of the top four teams. Darlington finished eighth (369) in the 10-team regional.

Argyle-Pecatonica senior Mitchell Steiner shot an 8-over-par 78 to tie for fourth at the Dodge-Point Country Club.

New Glarus junior Cade Beutler tied Barneveld junior Matthew Myers for eighth (80) and Argyle-Pecatonica junior Matthew Severson took 10th (82). The Oriole-Vikings got an 11th-place finish from sophomore Mason Holcomb (85).

Argyle-Pecatonica Dylan Stietz finished in a 13th-place tie (86) with New Glarus senior Max Cruse and Barneveld junior Connor Carden.

New Glarus senior Will Oemichen tied Barneveld's Seth Adelman for 16th with an 87. New Glarus freshman Matt Hach took 25th (91) to round out the top four for the Glarner Knights.

Darlington had three golfers in the top 30. Darlington sophomore Brogen Evenstad finished 21st shooting an 89. Senior Hunter Wilkenson and sophomore Seth Johnson tied for 27th, each carding a 92.
