MONONA - The Monroe football team couldn't overcome an early turnover and Monona Grove stymied the Cheesemakers 39-0 Friday, Sept. 13.
The Cheesemakers fumbled at their own 5-yard line and the Silver Eagles wasted no time in responding. Monroe (0-4, 0-1 Badger South) was plagued by three fumbles.
"They (Monona Grove) are as good as people say they are," Monroe coach Curt Miller said. "We fumbled at our 5-yard line and they punched it in. They are too good of a team to do that against them."
Monroe junior Jake Flannery was 3-of-3 passing for 56 yards. Monroe senior Charlie Kind had three catches for 17 yards. One highlight for the Cheesemakers' was Flannery's 45-yard pass to Cam Shaw.
Monroe will host Stoughton next week.
"It's a huge game coming up for us," Miller said. "We are looking to refocus and get after them. It's a big game if we want to get our goal of getting back to the playoffs."
