WIAA releases girls hoops playoff brackets

MONROE – The WIAA released the divisional brackets for the upcoming girls basketball tournament on Feb. 16.

Monroe (11-10) received a first-round bye in Division 2 and the fifth seed. The Cheesemakers will play at fourth-seeded Monona Grove (13-8) Feb. 28. The winner will take on either top-seeded DeForest (18-3), No. 8 Stoughton (7-14) or No. 9 McFarland (9-11) in the regional championship Feb. 29.

In Division 3, Brodhead (13-7) is the seventh seed and will host 10th-seeded Richland Center (7-14) in the opening round Feb. 25. The winner will travel to No. 2 Evansville (16-4) Feb. 28.

New Glarus (10-10) is a No. 6 seed in Division 4 and will host Brookwood (5-13) in the opening round Feb. 25. The winner gets a date with Cuba City (16-4) Feb. 28. Elsewhere in Division 4, Darlington (11-9) picked up the No. 8 seed and will host Wisconsin Heights (8-12), with the winner facing the No. 1 team in the state, two-time defending champion La Crosse Aquinas (19-1).

In Division 5, defending champion and top-ranked Black Hawk (18-0) is the No. 1 seed in its sectional. The Warriors will host Benton (0-20) in Round One Feb. 25.

Argyle (13-7) is the No. 5 seed and will host Southwestern (4-17). Albany (14-6) is the sixth seed and hosts Monticello (9-11), while Pecatonica (7-13) is seeded 13th and will travel to Randolph (17-4). Juda (3-14) is the 14th seed and will play at third-seeded Shullsburg (18-3). Fall River (20-1) is the No. 2 seed.

The winner of the Monticello-Albany matchup will play either Shullsburg or Juda in Round Two, while the Pecatonica-Randolph victor gets either Argyle or Southwestern.

Black Hawk will face either Barneveld or Cambria-Friesland in the second round.
