West nearly nabs sweep of East

MONROE — Barneveld’s 61-48 win over Highland prevented the West from sweeping the East in the Six Rivers Crossover games on Friday, Feb. 2. The games, played near the end of the regular season, pits teams with similar conference records from the East and West against one another. In 2023, the West swept the East.

POTOSI 66, ARGYLE 38

POTOSI — The Chieftains, ranked No. 7 in Division 5, improved since their last meeting with the Orioles on Jan. 8, when Potosi beat Argyle 79-63 with three players in double figures. In the latest contest, the Chieftains cleaned up their turnovers, going from 21 to just nine. Defensively, Potosi committed 12 fewer fouls.

RIVER RIDGE 69, PECATONICA 46

PATCH GROVE — The Vikings turned the ball over 25 times, leading to 36 points for the Timberwolves in a crossover contest. The only area Pecatonica bested River Ridge in was free throws (13-for-23), as the Timberwolves committed 20 fouls.

Tyler McKeon led Pecatonica with 13 points and five assists. Jameson Johnson also finished in double figures with 11 points. Charles Anderson, who scored eight points, grabbed 12 rebounds. Evan Dochnal also contributed seven rebounds.

SHULLSBURG 76, MONTICELLO 47

SHULLSBURG — Although the Ponies committed just three fouls and didn’t allow the Miners to get to the line, Monticello turned the ball over 33 times. Shullsburg scored 35 points off those turnovers.

Ryer Indergand led Monticello with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Hunter Grossen scored nine points and tallied seven rebounds.

CASSVILLE 42, ALBANY 28

CASSVILLE — Despite making three more 3-pointers than Cassville, Albany’s turnovers and fouls proved costly in a crossover loss. The visiting Comets turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 16 points for the home Comets. Albany also committed 13 fouls, allowing Cassville to go 10-for-13 from the line.

Ty Durtschi paced Albany with eight points. He was one of three players to grab a team-high three rebounds, including Drew Sertle and Caleb Smith.

BELMONT 59, BLACK HAWK 41

BELMONT — The Braves bullied the Warriors below the basket, outrebounding Black Hawk 53-33. Belmont grabbed 23 offensive rebounds, leading to 22 second-chance points. 

Andrew Figi finished with 11 points, while James Holland chipped in 10. Griffin Komprood led the team with seven rebounds.

BENTON 54, JUDA 28

BENTON — Unlike the first meeting — where the Zephyrs edged out 2-point win — Benton controlled the whole game against Juda. The Zephyrs allowed just five Panther points in the first half.

Kadin Paske led Juda with nine points, six of which came beyond the arc. 

The Panthers committed 22 fouls — Jayden Brown and Hunter Foster both fouled out — allowing the Zephyrs to get to the line 21 times. Eli Blaine was 8-for-11 from the charity stripe in his team-leading 17-point total.
