WATERTOWN — The Cheesemakers struggled in a dual with Watertown April 16, falling 6-1.

“Charlie Frehner picked up our lone victory today,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. “I was hoping to have a few of our singles players and a few of our doubles teams step up to grab the team victory, but we came up short. We didn’t have Bo Bahler today which shifted all of our singles players up.”

Frehner, the No. 4 singles player, defeated Owen Harris 6-2, 6-2.

“Charlie continues to impress at 4 singles and really is a true grinder. He plays long points and his mental toughness is impressive for a freshman,” Bordner said.

Chris Andraski moved up to No. 1 singles and lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Gabe Moon was blanked in the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0, and Tim Beckman lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

“Chris Andraski also had a great start to his match. He played an incredible first set with very few unforced errors, but started to lose some momentum and made a few too many mistakes as the match wore on,” Bordner said.

Evan Thompson and Luke Quinn were dropped in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-1. Wade Sweeney and Jon Callaway fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Luis Torres and Heath Bear lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

“Our doubles teams looked OK, but we definitely need to keep improving with our cross-court play. We lost too many points by handing easy shots to their net players. I think we have a lot of potential with our doubles teams but need to keep improving each day,” Bordner said.
