WHITEWATER — Raylin Peterson and Jaliyah Collins carried Black Hawk girls track and field team in the Nelson-Daniel Classic on Friday, March 17, scoring all eight of its points.

Peterson added another foot on to her school record from last week with a throw of 39-09.00. The distance put her in second behind Ayianna Johnson from Jefferson, who will play Division I basketball at West Virginia.

“To put that into perspective, it would have been enough to win the Division 3 title at the state meet last spring,” head coach Eric Erickson said. “It also would have won the Large School Division held Saturday.”

Collins also finished in the top ten with a throw of 31-07.00 for two points. Despite the throw being a PR, the season is still early, and Collins will likely continue to improve.

“The two girls have really worked hard and are great leaders on our team,” Eric Erickson said. “They are both putting in the time to technically become better throwers.”

On the boys side, Lane Marty scored eight of the Warriors’ nine points in the 55-meter hurdles. He qualified with a time of 9.04 seconds and improved in the finals for a time of 8.63 seconds for second place. He was just 0.11 seconds slower than top finisher Carver Goodman of Mauston.

“I knew that once Lane was comfortable three stepping, which I knew he could do, he’d be really good,” Eric Erickson said. “I’m very happy for him and for the success that has also come with extra effort and time.”

The remaining point came from the 4x400 relay, which also included Marty. He, Jovanny Erickson, Andrew Figi and James Holland finished eighth with a time of 3:56.84.
