BRODHEAD — Junior Cullen Walker needed just 12 points to surpass 1,000 for his career, and the guard doubled the mark with 24 points. Unfortunately, the effort did not lead to a win for Brodhead, which fell to Jefferson 62-61 in overtime.
Brody Riese tied the game at 51 with 42 seconds left in regulation. The Eagles (11-6, 8-2 RVC) turned the ball over with a travel at 18.4 seconds, giving the Cardinals (8-9, 5-5) the final possession. Brodhead missed three shots in the final seconds, including two putbacks. In overtime, Jefferson went 5-for-6 from the line to get the win.
Walker led Brodhead with 24 points, going 4-for-5 from the line with a pair of 3s. Jaxon Dooley finished with 12 points, while Nathan Engen tallied 10. As a team, the Cardinals were 10-for-21 from the charity stripe.
NEW GLARUS 62, MARSHALL 61
NEW GLARUS — Brett Warrell’s buzzer-beating game-winning 3-pointer sent the Castle into a frenzy, as the Knights (13-5, 5-0 Capitol South) knocked off the Cardinals (9-9, 2-3) in a conference game on Friday, Feb. 2.
Trailing by two after Marshall free throws, Warrell received in the inbounds pass, dribbled up the floor, crossed over at halfcourt, reached the arc and stepped back for the 3-pointer.
Warrell accounted for 17 points, including a pair of threes. Cade Thayer led the Knights with 18 points, going 8-for-12 from the charity stripe. Max Marty also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Through the first half of its conference schedule, New Glarus is a perfect 5-0.
MILTON 87, MONROE 56
MILTON — The Cheesemakers caught the Red Hawks on a hot streak, falling in an important playoff seeding game on Saturday, Feb. 3. Although Monroe (12-6, 8-2 RVC) and Milton (11-8, 6-3 Badger Large) are in different conferences, they are both in Division 2 for playoffs. James Seagreaves led Monroe with 20 points.
MONROE 74, CLINTON 38
MONROE — The Cheesemakers bullied the Cougars in the paint en route to a Rock Valley Conference win on Friday, Feb. 2. Monroe (12-6, 8-2) had 44 points in the lane and outrebounded Clinton (4-14, 2-8) 44-22.
Seagreaves tallied 19 points with nine rebounds. Logan Taylor added 14 points with a pair of 3s. Marcus Ott also finished in double figures with 11 points. Ryan Mathison chipped in eight rebounds.
PALMYRA-EAGLE 41, ALBANY 39 OT
PALMYRA — The Panthers and Comets duked it out in a nonconference game on Saturday, Feb. 3. While Albany (10-10, 3-6 Six Rivers East) led most of the second half, Palmyra-Eagle (13-4, 5-3 Trailways South) gained momentum that carried over to a win.
Kaden Zurfluh led the Comets with 15 points, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. Brayden Bakken had seven assists, and Drew Sertle led on the glass with six rebounds.
