PORTAGE-POYNETTE 3, MONROE 1

PORTAGE — The duo of Dylan Trudell and Jacob Trudell proved to be problematic for Monroe in its 3-1 loss to Portage-Poynette on Thursday, Aug. 31. Jacob Trudell had two goals, while Dylan Trudell tallied one goal and one assist.

Despite the loss, Monroe head coach Matt Coplien is starting to see improvement in his team.

“I think the team played their best game of the year, and the ship is heading in the right direction,” he said. “We just have to sustain for 80 full minutes, and we will find success.”

Senior Hassan Mustafa scored Monroe’s lone goal in the 62nd minute.

“Tonight, we played our game,” he said. “We actually came out swinging. The only way we can go is up. We are just looking to stay positive. We have a long road ahead.”

The journey ahead will be tough, as Monroe deals with injury early in the season. Junior Matthew Setterstrom got hurt during the game, and sophomores Shawn Van Dyk and Caleb Figi battle through injury.
