BELLEVILLE — Sugar River girls soccer, ranked No. 10 in Division 3, strengthened their resume with games against McFarland and Division 2 teams April 25-27.

The Raiders fell to the No. 4 Spartans 1-0 with a goal from Elise Freeman. Sugar River goalkeeper Addison Lutz made 10 saves in the loss.

Last season, McFarland eliminated Sugar River from the playoffs with a 3-2 overtime win in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal.

The Raiders then traveled to UW-La Crosse for a tournament, where they went 1-1 against Division 2 teams.

Sugar River fell to No. 7 Onalaska 2-1, as the Hilltoppers scored both goals in the second half. The Raiders had a 1-0 lead with a goal from Jenna Gentilli. Lutz made eight saves in the loss, while Eve Maclean recorded two.

The Raiders ended the weekend with a 3-2 win over La Crosse Central. The Riverhawks scored twice in the first eight minutes, but Sugar River held them scoreless the rest of the way. Anya Brenkman and Carrah Bainbridge sparked the second half with goals just three minutes apart. Bella Brenkman scored the game winner in the 69th minute. Lutz and Alice Neton combined for eight saves.

In other local soccer, Monroe fell to Whitewater 4-0 on April 25.
