After Day 1 of the WIAA individual state wrestling tournament, four area wrestlers are out and five remain.
Daniel Enloe, a Sugar River senior, won his first-round Division 2 heavyweight match against Tomahawk's Tony Matti by pin-fall in the third period. Enloe will face Wisconsin Lutheran's Isaiah Hahm at approximately 11:15 a.m. today in a quarterfinal match.
Monroe junior Alex Witt (D2, 170) lost to Barron's William Waldofski 3-1 in the first round, and is out of the tournament. A grappler has to advance out of the first round in order to wrestle for a place on the podium at the end of the weekend.
At 126 pounds, Sugar River sophomore Joe Quaglia lost to Baldwin-Woodville's Jordan Bonte by pin in the first round.
In Division 3, Pecatonica-Argyle junior Easton Schraepfer (152) lost 10-3 to Coleman's Bryce Karban.
Noah Krahenbuhl (D3, 120), a Pec-Argyle sophomore, was bounced with a 17-1 technical fall to Cael Erickson.
Today's matches, upcoming schedule
Four area wrestlers were sectional champions a week ago and received a first round bye. All quarterfinal matchups today will begin at approximately 11:15 a.m. Consolation matches will take place at approximately 2:45 p.m., with semifinals at 7 p.m. Wrestlebacks are scheduled for Saturday morning with third place matches in the afternoon and championships at 5 p.m.
In Division 2 at 220 pounds, Monroe junior Bodie Minder will wrestler Xavier's Mac Strand. The winner will wrestle at 7 p.m. tonight, while the lost is back in action at 2:45 p.m.
Also in Division 2, Brodhead-Juda senior Jackson Hauri will face Barron's Tristan Massie at 11:15 a.m., with the winner going again at 7 p.m. tonight and the loser at 2:45 p.m. this afternoon.
In Division 3 at 138 pounds, Darlington-Black Hawk senior Kolbe Ubersox will face Reid Olson of Cumberland in the morning session. Ubersox's WarBirds teammate, junior Leif Bredeson, will face Winnebago Lutheran's Ryan Jacobs in the heavyweight matchup.
