‘Space Stallions’ stifle Panthers, 90-20

ALBANY — The Space Stallions, er, Albany-Monticello Comets, the second-ranked team in Division 5, decimated winless Juda in a Six Rivers East game Dec. 8 by 70 points, 90-20. It was 55-9 at halftime.

Six Comets reached double figures. Abby Hollis led the way with 18 points, followed by Molly Olson (16), Dalana Trumpy (13), Alana Durtschi (12) and Anna Ellinger (11). AM finished 18-for-20 from the free throw line and 4-for-8 from deep. The Comets had 25 assists as a team and 36 steals. 

Phoenix Homan led Juda with eight points, and Katie Brooks added six.

Argyle-Pecatonica 59, Black Hawk 38

ARGYLE — Kylie Butler scored 17 of her team-high 19 points in the second half as the Orioles battered the Warriors in a Six Rivers East game Dec. 8.

Brooke Wellnitz added 14 for Argyle-Pecatonica, with Loretta Tisch chipping in with nine and Avari Steiner eight. 

Maddy Lange paced Black Hawk with 23 points, with 17 coming in the second half as well. The Warriors hit just one 3-pointer and were 7-for-9 from the free throw line. The Orioles were 6-for-31 from behind the 3-point line and 9-for-15 from the stripe.

Oregon 73, New Glarus 50

NEW GLARUS — For the first time in 662 calendar days (32 games), the Glarner Knights lost in the regular season. New Glarus (6-1), ranked third in Division 4, found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard Dec. 8 against Oregon (8-0), ranked ninth in Division 1.

The last regular season loss for the Knights was way back on Feb. 14, 2022. The 32-game win streak was the second-longest in the state across all divisions, and the only team with a better mark is Albany, which is now at 49 games.  

Lindsey Schadewalt paced New Glarus with 23 points and seven rebounds. Payton Schneider had eight rebounds and six points, and Elle Lancaster tallied eight points. The Knights lost the turnover battle 25-12 and the rebound margin 29-23. 

Oregon had three players in double figures: Katelyn Studebaker (19), Sam Schmitt (13) and Delaney Nyenhuis (12). The Panthers led 35-23 at halftime and shot 31-for-64 from the field, including 5-for-17 from 3-point land and 6-for-8 at the line. New Glarus was just 18-for-38 from the field, including 3-for-6 from deep and 12-for-17 at the stripe.

In other area action on Dec. 8, Brodhead defeated Big Foot 52-35 in a Rock Valley matchup, and Darlington pummeled Boscobel 67-28 in a SWAL tilt.
