Monroe’s Wes Saunders announced his commitment to play tennis at Hamline University via the School District of Monroe social media pages on Monday, March 4. Saunders knows that “playing at the college level means more will be asked of (him), but (he is) looking forward to being challenged and pushed to improve.” Ultimately, Saunders chose Hamline, in Saint Paul, Minn., for its “sense of community and school pride.” In addition to playing tennis, Saunders will double major in mathematics and secondary education with plans of coaching his own team — a decision influenced by his parents and teacher/coach Matthew Bordner. As a junior, Saunders compiled a 21-3 record at No. 2 singles.
