MILTON — Monroe took fifth at the Badger South mini-meet April 29 at Oak Ridge Golf Course, with Jack Rogerson and Noah Becker carding a team-best 5-over-par 76.

The Cheesemaker duo’s score was tied for eighth in the mini meet, with AJ Gray of Milton shooting a 3-under-par 68 to win the competition. Edgewood had the five of the top 8 scores. James Gilmore shot a 70, Ethan Arndt had a 73, Karl Gilmore and Brody Andes each carded a 75 and Tbone Weiss tied Rogerson and Becker with a 76 — though Weiss’s score didn’t count, as the meet’s scoring only adds up each team’s top four scores.

Edgewood won the team title with a 293, with Oregon (305), Monona Grove (327), Milton (335) and Monroe (341) coming up next.

Monroe’s Conner Allen carded an 88 and Bryce Winters finished with a 101 to round out the scoring on the par 73 course.

Becker parred the opening hole, while Rogerson snagged par on No. 2 and 3. Rogerson then parred the par 4 fifth hole, and both Becker and Rogerson birdied the par 5 sixth. The pair also shot par on holes 8 and 9 on the front before making the turn.

On the back nine, Becker parred 10-12, with Rogerson snagging a par on 11 and a birdie on 12. Both players birdied the par 4 14th, and Becker eagled the par 5 16th. Rogerson would birdie the par 5 18th.

Allen parred the second and 14th, while carding birdies on the fifth, sixth, 12th and 16th holes. Winters birdied the 16th and had pars on No. 2, 3 and 14. Dillon Lincicum, Monroe’s No. 5 golfer, had back-to-back pars on No. 4-5 and finished with a 108.

Logan Niesen finished with a 51 while Dylan Posthuma had a 53 and Jaxson Pier a 57 for Monticello-Belleville.

New Glarus took fifth as a team. Matt Hach shot a 41 with three birdies.

“Between that meet and some of the practice we have had, I can tell Matt is starting to get into a groove,” New Glarus coach Jonathon Goodness said. “He is playing his driver much better and his short game is starting to come around as well. When Matt is in his zone he can play with anybody.”

Jacob Krantz shot a 46, Jared Martinson carded a 48 and Ty Ready a 49 for the Glarner Knights, which still stand in fourth place in the Capitol Conference mini-meet season standings. Freshman Zak Arnett shot a 56, which didn’t count in the team score but impressed his coach nonetheless.

“I was glad to see Zak playing well in his first meet as a freshman. As a team, I know we are all anxious to finish the regular conference season at our home course Tuesday (May 7),” Goodness said.

Lakeside Lutheran’s Lukas Heckmann was the Lake Mills meet medalist with a 34. Cambridge won the meet (166), just ahead of Columbus (172), Lodi (175) Lakeside Lutheran (180) and New Glarus (184). Monticello-Belleville shot a 193 and took seventh.

Columbus and Cambridge are tied at the top of the regular season standings with a clear lead on Lodi and New Glarus, the two teams ranked third and fourth in the conference table. Monticello-Belleville is tied with Lake Mills for sixth place.
