MONROE — The Rock Valley conference released its all-conference selections on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and state-bound Monroe football had 11 first-team all-conference selections.
Isaac Bunker, a Navy commit, nabbed Defensive Player and Lineman of the Year with six tackles for loss and three sacks. Toby Golembiewski was named Coach of the Year, with Tom Witt as an assistant Coach of the Year.
Joining him on the first-team all-conference offense are running backs Keatin Sweeney and Alex Hernandez and lineman Sean Rufenacht, Nathaniel Baker and Austin Fuchs. On the defensive end, Rufenacht also made first-team all-conference as a defensive end. Jordan Klocke made the squad as a lineman, along with Lane Meier at inside linebacker. Tucker Markham and Charlie Wiegel took two of the four outside linebacker spots on first-team while Drew Indergand made the list at defensive back.
The Cheesemakers had another three players on the second-team. Kaden Kuester was selected as a running back, while James Seagreaves and Sweeney were named as defensive end and defensive back, respectively.
To round out the accolades, Indergand, George Brukwicki and Gavin Foulker received honorable mention.
In volleyball, Brodhead had Player of the Year in senior Abbie Dix.
Dix, a UW-Whitewater commit, led the team with 289 kills and 66 solo blocks. Joining her on the first team are Alexis Kammerer — a Dubuque commit — and Kirsten Fish — a UW-Green Bay commit.
Junior Addison Yates made second-team all-conference, while Mckenna Young and Kaidynce Bevars received honorable mention.
The Cardinals finished their season with a 33-5 record, falling to Randolph in the sectional final.
WFCA All-Region TEAM
MONROE — The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) announced its All-Region selections on Tuesday, Nov. 8 with 10 local players from five different teams making the list.
Monroe led with four selections in Bunker as an offensive lineman, Sweeney at offense back, Rufenacht at defensive end and Markham as outside linebacker.
Brodhead had three players on the list at five different positions. Aidyn Vondra was named as a defensive back, while Blake Matthys made the list at both TE/FB and inside linebacker. Austin Moe was named as both an offensive and defensive lineman.
Darlington nabbed two selections in Max McGuire on the offensive line and Carter Murray at outside linebacker.
Lucas Milz was the only selection for Black Hawk at both offensive back and inside linebacker.
WFCA All-State Team
MONROE — The WFCA announced its All-State selections on Monday, Nov. 14.
For Monroe, Bunker was named to the First-Team as an offensive lineman, along with Sweeney as an offensive back.
Aidan Keyes of Belleville also made the offensive First-Team at quarterback. DeMarcus Connor was selected to the Honorable Mention team as a wide receiver.
The Wildcats fell to conference rival Darlington in Level 2 of the playoffs. Belleville finished 9-2 overall and was the top passing team in the state with total 3,195 yards.
McGuire was the lone representative for Darlington, making Honorable Mention All-State as an offensive lineman.
The Redbirds narrowly fell 7-14 to rival Mondovi in Level 4 playoffs. Darlington won the SWAL and finished its season with an 11-2 mark.
Milz, too, was the only player from Black Hawk. He received honorable mention recognition as an offensive back.
The Warriors ended their season with an 8-4 record. They were knocked off by Cashton in the Level 3 playoffs 14-28.
Moe and Matthys made All-State Honorable Mention on both sides of the ball. Moe as both an offensive and defensive lineman, and Matthys at TE/FB and inside linebacker.
The Cardinals were eliminated in the Level 3 playoffs by Prairie du Chien. Of Brodhead’s three loses (9-3), the Blackhawks were responsible for two of them.
