Monticello-Belleville, Argyle-Pec advance to sectional meets

BIG BEND — Monroe finished eighth at the WIAA Division 1 Mukwonago Regional at Edgewood Golf Course. The Cheesemakers carded a 449. Milton (326) won the regional, with Mukwonago (332), Beloit Memorial (340) and Fort Atkinson (356) also advancing.

Wyatt Marshall, a Janesville Craig freshman, was the medalist, shooting a 1-over-par 73. 

Monroe’s Bert Leach finished tied for 24th with a 95, eight shots off the mark to qualify for the Janesville sectional. Seth Brandt carded a 111. Cole Meier shot a 121. Carson Leuzinger had a 122, and Logan Spear finished with a 127.


WIAA Division 2 New Glarus Regional

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights finished second overall behind Edgerton June 1 at Edelweiss Chalet and Country Club. New Glarus advances to the Prairie du Chien sectional, to be held June 8 at Prairie du Chien Country Club.

Edgerton finished with a team-low score of 332, while New Glarus carded a 368, nine strokes better than Monticello-Belleville (377), which also qualified for the sectional. Evansville (381) was fourth, while Brodhead (393) was fifth in the 10-team regional.

Edgerton’s Braden Hurst was the medalist, shooting an 81. Teammates Brady Callmer and Cameron Lee finished tied for second with 82s. New Glarus senior Ty Ready had an 84, one shot better than Monticello-Belleville’s Peter Gustafson and Daniel Romano of Clinton. Brodhead’s Onni Oliver was seventh overall with an 86. Oliver, Romano, Delavan-Darien’s RJ Jordan and Whitewater’s Camden Frye advance to the sectional as individuals. Frye and Jordan tied Brodhead’s Grant Purdue with a 90 overall, but advanced in a tiebreaker.

Following Ready’s big day for New Glarus was teammate Darris Schuett, who had an 89, Zak Arnett with a 97, Ben Lukszys with a 98 and Jack Douma with a 99.

Peyton Smith carded a 92 for Monticello-Belleville. Logan Niesen finished with a 98, Jaxson Pier a 102 and Grant Grossen a 110.

Brodhead’s Nolan Oliver shot a 98, while Austin Moe carded a 119 and Austin Reed a 159.


WIAA Division 3 House on the Rock Regional

SPRING GREEN — Argyle-Pecatonica’s Noah Krahenbuhl and David Tisch qualified for the Mineral Point Sectional on June 2. Krahenbuhl shot an 88 and Tisch carded a 99 at the Par 72 House on the Rock golf course. Tisch beat out Aedan Applegate of Barneveld in a tiebreaker.

Teammate Alex Emberson had a 100, but missed qualifying. Also playing for Argyle-Pecatonica were Justin Carlson (105) and Jaime Owens (121). 

Argyle-Pecatonica scored a 392, one stroke behind fourth-place Parkview for the final team-qualifying spot for sectionals. Lancaster (373) was third, Fennimore (361) second and Mineral Point (359) was the regional champion. Darlington (504) finished ninth.

Oscar Thuli led Darlington with a 115. Pedro McCormish had a 126, Phillip McGowan a 131 and Dan Belanger a 132.

Lancaster’s Noah Kirsch was the medalist, finishing with a 77.


NG wins Green County Open

MONROE — New Glarus won the annual Green County Open at Monroe Golf Club May 28, finishing with a team score of 363. Hartford (374) was second, followed by Monticello-Belleville (380), Brodhead (382), Parkview (400) and host Monroe (435).

Ty Ready of New Glarus and Trey Oswald of Parkview finished tied at the top of the leaderboard with 83s. Peter Gustafson (86) of Monticello-Belleville was third, Brodhead’s Nolan Oliver (89) fourth and Monroe’s Bert Leach (90) fifth. Tied for sixth place with a 91 were Brodhead’s Grant Purdue and Onni Oliver, while Zak Arnett of New Glarus was tied for eighth with Hartford Union’s Quinn Albrecht and Hunter Wenzel with 92.

For New Glarus, Jack Douma (94) and Darris Schuett (94) also broke triple digits, while Monticello-Belleville’s Logan Niesen (96), Grant Grossen (99) and Peyton Smith (99) and Jaxson Pier (104) finished in the top 20. Luke Brecklin of New Glarus shot a 105. Monroe’s Seth Brandt (114), Logan Spear (115) and Cole Meier (116) also competed, as did Brodhead’s Austin Reed (111) and Austin Moe (119).
