Redbirds, Cardinals, Comets score wins

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds struggled Dec. 9 against second-ranked Mineral Point, losing 68-26.

The Pointers, last season’s WIAA Division 4 state runners-up, had 29 steals while only giving up 13 possessions of their own. Mallory Lindsey finished with 17 points, and Kennedy Wenger and Blair Watters each had 12 for Mineral Point (6-0, 2-0 SWAL).

Mady Wedig led Darlington (4-3, 1-1) with eight points, while Cayla Golackson added six.

Two days later, the Redbirds defeated East Dubuque, Ill. in a nonconference game at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.


Brodhead 55, 

Big Foot 23

WALWORTH — The Cardinals brought a balanced scoring attack and smothering defense in an unbalanced win over Big Foot Dec. 10.

Brodhead (8-0, 5-0 Rock Valley Conference) led Big Foot (3-4, 1-3) 21-5 at the end of the first half. 

Kiarra Moe led the Cardinals with 11 points, while Addie Yates hit two 3-point baskets and scored 10 total. Abbie Dix added nine, and Tori Urness tallied six. 

Just four players scored for Big Foot, with Lydia Larson leading the way with 10 points.


Albany 48, 

Highland 43

ALBANY — The Comets picked up a Six Rivers crossover win Dec. 11.

Brianna Dahl and Alana Durtschi each scored 11 points for Albany, while Gracie Freitag had six. 

Albany was just 12 of 25 from the free throw line as a team, including a 10-for-22 mark in the second half down the stretch. 

In other area girls basketball results, Pecatonica lost 67-45 to Boscobel on Dec. 10.
