NEW GLARUS — After a loss and tie last week, Sugar River got back to its winning ways with a pair of wins in its Swiss Kick Quad on Saturday, May 13.

The Raiders opened the event with an 8-0 win over Dodgeville-Mineral Point, receiving two goals each from Carrah Bainbridge, Anya Brenkman and Hannah Boldebuck. The trio gave Sugar River a 3-0 lead in the first half, scoring in a span of 12 minutes.

In the second half, Annika Ziperski and Brooke Warrell added to the scoring. Jenna Gentilli assisted Ziperski, while Warrell scored on a penalty kick. In net, Addison Lutz recorded two saves.

With the win, Sugar River advanced to the championship game against Delavan-Darien, who defeated Baraboo 8-1.

The Comets scored first in the 13th minute, but Anya Brenkman knotted the game eight minutes later with an assist from Bella Brenkman. Just six minutes into the second frame, Anya Brenkman scored on a penalty kick, which proved to be the game winner.

Addison Lutz made five saves in net, while Eve Maclean recorded one.

After a pair of home games this week, the Raiders travel to Stoughton on Saturday, May 20. The two teams will be playing to raise awareness for cancer after the loss of Masey “Moose” Farrell on Thursday, April 20.

“Our upcoming event is not only an opportunity to support a great cause, and help address a terrible disease, but also an opportunity for us to reflect on a recent loss of a close friend our program lost — a 5-year-old little girl named Masey “Moose” Farrell, daughter of a Raider Alumn Meagan (Paris) Ferrell,” Sugar River head coach John Ziperski said. “We have a few small plans to recognize Masey and her family at our event.”

The teams will share a moment of silence and release bubbles in celebration of Masey’s life.
