Raiders 2nd at home invite

BELLEVILLE — Sugar River took second in both the boys and girls division at its own 12-team invitational May 16. Columbus won the boys side with 106 points to Sugar River’s 94.5, while Lodi (137) came out on top in the girls bracket ahead of the Raiders (99). Black Hawk, Albany and Monticello finished 10-11-12 on the boys side, while Black Hawk was ninth in the girls side, with Albany 11th and Monticello 12th. 

Sophomore Tucker Sysko was the champion in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, 10-inches. Charlie Sarbacker was second in the pole vault at 12-6Will Pinnow was second in the 400 for the Raiders with a time of 55.64 seconds. Dylan Gardner was third in the 3,200 11:17.78) and Brent Weeden was third in the shot put (51-3) and discus (138-8). Albany’s Caleb Smith was fourth in the shot put (486.5). Black Hawk’s James Holland was fifth in the discus (129-0)

The Raiders quad of Jesse Luchsinger, Andrew Sarbacker, Charlie Sarbacker and Charley Spiegel were second in the 400 relay with a time of 44.88 seconds, just behind champion Cambridge (44.63).

On the girls side, Sugar River freshman Ellie Gehin won the 400 by two-tenths of a second with a time of 1:07.53. Black Hawk sophomore Jaci Kammes was fourth (1:09.28). 

Albany freshman Emma Thompson won the 1,600 (5:59.09) by more than six seconds. In the 3,200, Sugar River freshman Mya Clark (13:35.19) was two seconds behind champion Savannah Overhouse (Lake Mills) for second place, while senior Kaylie Clark of Sugar River was third at 13:53.19.

Sugar River’s quartet of Gracie Atkinson, Vivian Lancaster, Kalia Malaise and Leyna Westphal won the 400-relay with a mark of 51.63 seconds. Black Hawk’s group of Mya Milz, Maddy Place, Makayla Curran and Emily Curran were third (53.08).

Black Hawk was first place in the 3,200-relay, as Molly Edler, Jacie Kammes, Milz and Place teamed up to run a 10:36.12. The Raiders scored a second-place finish from Atkinson, Lancaster, Malaise and Marie Besley in the 800-relay (1:51.45). Atkinson was second in the triple jump with a mark of 34-3.5 and third in the long jump (17-3.5), just a half an inch from second place. Malaise was third in the triple jump at 33-9.5, a half an inch ahead of Lodi’s Olivia Heyroth.

Monticello’s Kennedee Johnson was fourth in the high jump (4-8). Albany’s Lillyana Morales was fifth in the shot put (32-4.5) and discus (98-0). Sugar River’s Reese Speth was fourth in the discus (99-7).
