MONROE — The Cheesemakers entered Rock Valley Conference play with a plan of attack — be aggressive at the net. The tactic paid off in a 7-0 sweep of Big Foot on Thursday, Aug. 5. In fact, all seven wins were in straight sets.

“(Coach Bordner) said that we should start back a little more toward the service line, and as the ball was coming, we could step into the volley and hit winners,” No. 1 doubles player Layla Pallesen said. “He coached me and Rylee to step toward the net and play aggressively.”

Net play was also key in the No. 2 doubles victory, where Brinley Roidt played angles. Transitioning from volleyball to tennis, Roidt played upon the sports’ similarities to find success.

“Yes, I have been really enjoying tennis and there are similarities in serving and hitting kill shots,” she said. “It was definitely fun hitting the angle shots because I have been practicing those, and today I was able to get them in.”

Monroe’s dual with Milton scheduled for Sept. 6 was rained out.
