Argyle-Pecatonica golfers (L-R) Glenn Jayne, Alex Ruetten, Evan Dochnal and Kyle Theorin led the SWAL to an 11-5 win over the SWC in the Southwesern Cup on Saturday, May 13.

MONROE — Monroe hosted the 13-team Green County Open at the Monroe Golf Club on Friday, May 12. The Cheesemakers finished ninth with a team score of 348.

“It’s always nice to have a home match,” Monroe head coach Braden Rindy said. “The weather ended up cooperating to make a pleasant day and having lot of good teams in the field made for a fun event. Having the top five teams within seven strokes is a cool occurrence.”

The Monroe Golf Club nearly folded this year — its 100th birthday — before gaining new ownership. Since then, the course and clubhouse has received modifications, including a brand-new Little Gem 12-hole course opening June 20.

“The new ownership at the club has been fantastic to work with,” Rindy said. “It’s great to see what they are doing to make MGC a great place to golf. I’m very thankful for how they work with me to get the youth put on the courses.”
